Tuesday, January 9 - Introduction to Being a Steward (90 minutes)
This class is for anyone who is considering becoming a steward or who wants to know more about their union and their union rights.
Saturday, January 13 – Is This a Grievance? Identifying and Writing a Grievance (75 minutes)
A grievance is our union’s legal remedy when management violates our contract. This class will help you know when you should file a grievance and how to do it.
Tuesday, February 6 - All About Bargaining (75 minutes)
What is bargaining? What are the employer and the union’s obligations? Explore the legal rights and responsibilities, as well as the roles of the bargaining team, the staff rep, stewards, and members.
Thursday, February 29 – Investigating and Documenting a Potential Grievance (75 minutes)
The steward needs to sort through a lot of information to determine if a grievance does, or does not, exist. Interviewing people and finding supporting documents are a key part of making that determination.
Tuesday, March 5 – How to Sign Up New Members (75 minutes)
Reaching out to new employees is vital in maintaining the strength of our union. We need stewards and union supporters to greet new employees in their first days on the job, and then continue reaching out to be an ongoing positive resource.
Thursday, March 14 – Presenting to Management (75 minutes)
Once the grievance is written, we want to bring our best arguments forward and anticipate management's responses to resolve the grievance at the lowest possible level.
Saturday, March 23 (New) – Unions 101- Everything You Want to Know About Your Union and Didn’t Know Who to Ask (75 minutes)
Dive into the history and structure of our union as well as your union rights. We’ll wrap with a Q & A session so you leave knowing a LOT about your union.
